Choosing between Wood Fence Designs

There are quite a few wood fence designs from which you can choose. Wooden fences are attractive, traditional and functional. They are used to create boundaries, add privacy and improve the value and look of your property. Before building your fence, you will need to decide what kind of fence you need. It all depends upon your particular needs. For example, a fence used as a simple boundary is going to be quite different from a fence used for privacy purposes. Wooden fences range from very simple in design to quite ornate and decorative.

The basic boundary fence will require posts spaced anywhere from 6' to 8' apart and at least two rails attached to each post. You can position the posts in a straight configuration or cross them diagonally. This type of fence is the most simple, and the easiest to build. Many people build their boundary fences themselves. Of course, if you do not have the time or expertise to do so you can of course hire a contractor to do the job for you. Maybe you want a privacy fence to protect you from the prying eyes of nosy neighbors. This type of fence is a bit different than the basic boundary fence.

A privacy fence is higher than a traditional type fence. And, the boards are close together with no space in between them. These fences not only provide a boundary for your property line, they offer a great deal of privacy. You will want to build your privacy fence high enough so that people cannot see over it. If you need to get a better idea about the different types of fences, including the privacy fence, you should definitely search for some photos. Reading about different fence styles cannot compare to actually seeing them.

The Internet is a great place to find lots of wood fence designs. You can find pictures of other people's fences as well as fence plans. There are even downloadable plans that you can acquire for a reasonable price or sometimes for free. You might also want to browse through some illustrated books about fences to see the different styles. It is important to get a good look at the various styles before deciding which fence is best for your property and your needs.
